MY WEEK 11 : ( MARCH 13TH )

Where is the Spring weather??, this was the best day of the week the sun actually shone for a while, the rest of the week has been bitterly cold with wintery showers but work must go on.
The Sweet Peas are looking ok and do not appear to have been affected at all by the cold weather, however if this wintery spell keeps going I may not get the flowers in early June.

This is my neighbouring plot holder Brian, as you can see I have inspired him to take the lower maintenance approach to allotmenting, giving him less weeding to do and more time to tend his crops and also more time for us to sit and watch them grow!!.

This week I have trenched my bed where I will be growing my climbing French Beans ( Blue Lake ), I have taken out the soil to 1 spit deep and then added some well rotted manure, covered this with some newspaper and then backfilled with soil, this will help to keep plenty of moisture at the roots.

My Tomatoes, Sweet Peppers, Chillies and Cabbages have all germinated well and I have moved them from the propogator where the temperature is about 20c, into the heated greenhouse which is maintained at a minimum of 10c to grow on. I have also sown some flowers this week, Dwarf Asters, American Asters, Lavenders and Coleus which I will use in my hanging baskets and pots.

Anyway that's it for this week, have heard that this wintery weather will be with us for next week as well so I may have to delay some of the planting and sowing but we'll see, speak to you next week, thanks Steve.
